RUSS' RIDE REVIEW (Monday March 29, 2004)
Some people are going to wait until May 21, the grand opening date of Revenge of the Mummy, but I'm not one of them. I couldn't wait, so when I found out USF was going to start soft openings of the attraction yesterday afternoon I jumped in my car and made a beeline for this much anticipated ride.
I was definitely not disappointed at all. From the moment I stepped into the queue I was totally impressed with what Universal had been able to do. There are still some missing elements that will be completed and installed by the grand opening but I didn't care. There are some really fun features in the queue so when you get a chance to ride make sure you touch and look at everything. The best was yet to come.
To say I love this ride is an understatement. I could go on it over and over again and I'm sure I will. The ride is full of drops (on which you actually get a lot of air), quick stops, and a track that rotates and sends you rocketing in another direction. These great features combined with the other effects, like the burning ceiling that is extremely awesome, makes this a great new addition to UO. I don't want to give too much away because I would rather let you experience it yourself but make sure you're ready for the unexpected because that's just what this ride is.
PRE-OPENING DESCRIPTIONS:
ALERT!!! Rumor has it that Revenge of the Mummy will begin soft openings Monday March 29th. From what we have been told ROTM will begin accepting riders sometime in the early afternoon. Anybody who would like to be first should make a point to get there early.
Well it is about time that Universal steps up and announces what we have known since before Kongfrontation closed. There will be a new indoor coaster opening in Universal Orlando and Universal Hollywood simultaneously in 2004, Revenge of the Mummy.
This new ride will integrate roller coaster technology, space age robotics, and pyrotechnic special effects. It is being labeled a psychological thrill ride as it will send riders through Egyptian sets, chambers, passageways and tombs in cars that will go both forwards and backwards. The ride will last approximately five minutes and a couple of the effects that have already been discussed are a room where riders will pass through a ceiling of flames just inches above them and one area where a skeleton warrior, which will uses technology similar to that of the Mars robotic range vehicle, will leap on your car.
To help create the environment for the ride, from golden amulets to Canopic Jars containing the remains of royalty, the ride producers went to Egypt and the British Museum in London. The designers worked with the German firm Kouka, which makes robots for cars, to design some of the robotic mummies. This ride sounds great so far and should once again raise the bar for attractions in theme parks around the world. Keep checking back for any further developments.
